News - Strong Way To Running Improvement

Strength TrainingRunners in Surrey training for a spring marathon or wanting to improve their times at 10k or half marathon may be interested in a new four week course on strength training for endurance runners. The course is offered by the University of Surrey at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford and is designed to teach individuals about general and runner-specific exercises, and how to create an effective strength training programme.

News - World Trials For Reading

Reading Half LogoBritish Athletics has confirmed that Reading Half Marathon will act as the official trial race for the 2014 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships, which will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday 29 March. Reading Half Marathon has become established as one of the top half marathons in the country and will take place on Sunday 2 March 2014. It is also round one of the runbritain Grand Prix and the England Championships.

Poll - Music At Races, Your Views

Yurbuds runner with earphones inThis month we want to find out more about your views on running with headphones at races.

So far, responses have been mixed. 40.7% of voters feel that if runners agree to follow certain guidelines, they should be allowed to wear headphones, however 37.3% say that all headphones should be banned at all races. A further 11.3% think that at certain types of races, like marathons, allowances should be made for headphones.

Race Listings

Night FrightLast weekend's race results are now available online at southernrunningguide.com. Check out the results and upcoming events on our race listing page.

Entrants at Night Fright in Surrey on Saturday have the opportunity to run 8.5k at dusk/night across the Chantries Woodlands. Participants are reminded to bring a head torch and are told to prepare for 'wiggly woos, ghostly creatures and forest frighteners'.

Sunday will see 25,000 competitors pound the streets of Portsmouth for the Bupa Great South Run. The flat and fast course takes in the Historic Dockyard and has beautiful views of the Isle of Wight.
