Event of the Week

English Half Marathon

The English Half Marathon will return to Warrington for its ninth year in the town on Sunday 17 September 2017. With nearly 4,000 runners already signed up to take part over the weekend, organisers are anticipating in excess of 6,000 registrations for this year’s event, making it the biggest year to date.

Due to ever growing interest in the race, organisers are giving runners even more reasons to take part in this year’s EHM. There is a brand-new 5K Night Run coming to Warrington’s Victoria Park on Friday 15 September. All finishers will receive a bespoke race medal, finish line food as well a pint of a specially brewed beer from the local Wincle Beer Company.

For the first time, all finishers will receive a complimentary beer from the ‘Wincle Beer Company’. This specially brewed beer will be the perfect treat for runners taking on this fast town centre course.

Once again, the team have produced a stunning set of race medals which are the perfect addition to anyone’s medal collection, with the chance to walk away with up to five medals this year. With the addition of Friday Night 5k alongside the return of the Half Marathon, 10k and WireFM Mile, there is a distance for everyone.

Rob Griffiths, race director, said “We’ve seen for some time that the English Half Marathon in Warrington has firmly planted itself within the national running calendar, but the uptake this year has been really overwhelming. We pride ourselves on delivering a world class event here in Warrington. With this year’s addition of the Friday Night 5k, offering a ladies fit in our event finisher t-shirts and our partnership with the Wincle Beer Company, we’re taking the event to new heights. We’ll have to start planning now so we can top if for our 10th anniversary in 2018!”

The English Half Marathon route is designed to show you everything that Warrington has to offer. From a bustling town centre, to scenic countryside the course has something to offer every runner. With gentle inclines, no higher than 3%, and a total elevation profile of just over 200 feet, the first half of the race sees only a minor climb. A forgiving second half rewards runners who put in the effort at the front end, meaning the English Half Marathon and 10k courses are both excellent runs for PB chasers. Races are a terrific way to get to know a location in-depth and discover its best-kept secrets. And a town like Warrington has it all covered.
