Entries for the 2012 GE Blenheim Triathlon will close tomorrow (Friday, May 11). One of the best organised events on the multi-event calendar, the race takes place within the grounds of the stunning Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on June 9-10 and usually attracts 8,000 entrants and 15,000 spectators over the weekend.

Tens of thousands of spectators witnessed the successful official opening of London's Olympic Stadium on Saturday (May 5). The British University and College Sports (BUCS) athletics championships took place at the venue on May 5-7 as the cream of student athletes became the first to compete in a track and field championship at the venue set to hold this summer's Olympics.

Following last year's successful launch event, the second Oxford half marathon promises to be bigger and better in 2012 with a newly approved route. The new course will allow for an entry of 6,000, three times the number from last year's inaugural event last year. The route will combine the modern demands of a major mass participation event whilst also incorporating the charm of the historic University city. MINI Plant Oxford is the event sponsor.

Saturday, September 22 will see one of the most dramatic running events of 2012 when an anticipated 800 'gorillas' will make their way around the streets of central London. The Great Gorilla Run will attract runners from around the world dressed-up in gorilla suits and aiming to complete a 7k course to raise funds for the Gorilla Organization.

The ballot for the 2013 Virgin Marathon closed within 24 hours of it opening last week (April 30), presumably due to huge demand. A record 36,705 completed the race in glorious conditions this year in front of a television audience of around three million.

Having just hosted its first marathon with almost 3000 finishers, interest in running in Milton Keynes is on the up. The Buckinghamshire town's running club David Lloyd Redway Runners began a new Run England 10 week beginners course in January 2011 and have grown the membership from 12 to just over 250 members.

Reigning World and European 5,000m champion Mo Farah has confirmed that he will hone his Olympic preparations by racing over the distance at the Aviva London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on July 13. Farah always receives a huge reception in his home city and with the Olympic Games opening ceremony taking place just two weeks later, it promises to be a superb atmosphere on the Friday night of the two-day Samsung Diamond League meeting.

Organisers of the forthcoming Sussex Living Marathon Weekend are keeping a keen eye on the weather to ensure races will be able to go ahead as planned. The three-day event comprises the Sussex Living East Grinstead 10 mile event on Saturday, May 5, the Sussex Living Haywards Heath 10 mile on Sunday, May 6 and the Sussex Living Burgess Hill 10K on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7.
