Race start

One of first post-Christmas bargains for Essex runners is the Pitsea Running Club's annual Boxing Day crown-to-crown 5k event, which costs the princely sum of £1.

The Basildon-based club's event is on-the-day entries only, with all proceeds going to charity.

The race gets underway at 11am and all standards of runners are welcome, although children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is willing to run accompany them at all times.

The start and finish is at the Westley Heights Country Park located at the rear of the Harvester (Crown) Public House, Langdon Hills. The route takes runners out of the Country Park onto Lee Chapel Lane and into the Essex Wildlife Trusts' Willow Park.

A loop round the reserve brings runners back to Lee Chapel Lane and then to the finish in the Country Park. Spikes are not suitable due to a section on tarmac roads, the route is mainly public bridleways. There are toilets, but no showers.
