Kids Mile Doubles Entries

22 FEB2012

Entries are pouring in for the Grand Hotel Mini-Mile which takes place over the last mile of the Brighton Marathon on April 15. This time last year just over 400 youngsters had signed up. But numbers are more than double that at 920 with over a month still to go before the deadline of March 23 is reached.

"We are amazed by the response from Brighton and Hove's schools," said Holly Freeman, Grounded Events Mini-Mile project manager: "The interest is unprecedented and we are well on course to break last year's total of 1200 entries."

In its inaugural year, more than 400 youngsters raced the final mile down Madeira Drive. Last year, that figure tripled. This year organisers had set a target of 1500 entries, but given the high level of interest even that number may be surpassed.

An innovation this year is that the children will wear electronic chips in their numbers giving them an automatic time as they cross the line for the event that takes place on Sunday, April 15.

There is also the chance to win a pair of trainers. If you are one of the lucky ones whose race pack contains a Golden Ticket, it can be exchanged at the Marathon Expo at the Brighton Centre for a new pair of running shoes.

The race is open to children between the ages of seven and 17. The races are age-banded. All entrants will receive a T-shirt and upon finishing will be given a medal and goody bag. To enter please click here.
