It takes guts to run an ultra marathon. Now you can run one for GUTS Fighting Bowel Cancer, in a brand new event organised by award winning race promoter AAT Events. The 58k race goes from London to Guildford on Saturday 23 September.
London To Guildford Takes Guts
GUTS ULTRA will start at Barn Elms Athletics Ground, South West London at 7am and there is a lighter half marathon option joining the route at 10am at Effingham Junction, East Horsley in Surrey.
The spectacular course takes runners through Richmond Park then follows River Thames Path to Hampton Court. From there, runners head south across Esher Common, Oxshott Heath and Cobham, meandering through urban landscapes and along forest trails to Effingham. Here, half marathoners will join in for the final 21k across the spectacular North Downs Way to finish on Guildford’s ancient cobbled High Street, where medals will be awarded to all finishers.
The event supports GUTS Fighting Bowel Cancer charity and makes an exciting new addition to distance runners' calendars. One in 18 of us will have bowel cancer at some point and GUTS is working hard to improve screening, detection and survival rates. They estimate that if just 60% of those eligible joined the screening programme, there could be 20,000 fewer deaths in the next 20 years.
A similar ultra marathon delivered by AAT Events earlier this year received the following five star review: “I really can't fault it. Well organised, friendly, beautiful scenery, wonderful enthusiastic volunteers, good range of foods at aid stations, a fantastic medal... and a great finish area in general.”
Entry fees are £60/£26 for the GUTS ULTRA/half marathon and all the details are available at the AAT Events website, on Facebook and on Twitter.
