Leave The Cold Behind →
6 FEB2012

After a fairly tame start to winter, the weather is really starting to bite. The first dusting of snow has hit parts of the UK and the temperature has dropped sharply. For runners it offers a few quandaries. Is it too icy to run on the roads? What extra clothing should I wear? Should I even go out at all?
Samurai Shoes Reviewed →
1 FEB2012
Pearl Izumi is making a bold move into the shoe market with half a dozen models that cover road and trail. Most publicity has centred around the Kissaki and its name - the tip of a samurai sword in Japanese, and its appearance, the shoe has an eye-catching bright contemporary look and colourway.

If you're a runner it tends to be a way of life. Something you get used to, something you don't like to miss. It can feel like a duty sometimes, even a chore. We all know that it can be hard work. Sure it's a brilliant cardiovascular workout that gets the heart pumping and the oxygen flowing. After a long run or a hard session you feel great but you've really earned that 'feel good' factor - that sense of well-being, that beer, that big slice of chocolate cake.

Nights are drawing in aren't they? It's an observation most of us have probably heard in recent weeks. It's rarely done with a smile either. People are saying that this is not a good thing - it's getting colder, it's getting darker. I can understand their position entirely, but as a runner I see it from a totally different vantage point.
Jim Fixed It →
4 NOV2011

The recent death of former Radio 1 DJ and Top of the Pops host Jimmy Saville was greeted in a strange way in the media. Newspapers, broadcasters and on-line media - much like the public - find it much easier to simply pigeon-hole someone's personality. But for an eccentric like Sir Jimmy, it was nigh on impossible to summarise him.

20 OCT2011

To be honest, I wasn't hugely looking forward to spectating at Sunday's Amsterdam Marathon, writes Chris Broadbent. I was supposed to be taking part, but with the development of a breathing problem just a few weeks before the race date, I had little option but to shelve my plans. It meant nearly five months of training went to waste. The arrival of my race pack through the post simply deepened the gloom. But the flights and hotel were already booked and four friends were taking on their first ever marathons, so off I set, leaving my trainers sat forlornly at home.
