Big Race, Bigger Personality

Jersey Marathon

Every marathon has a background story. You can’t have thousands taking on the huge task of running 26.1 miles, overcoming incredible physical and mental challenges, and often fundraising for an important cause, without stories that will inspire, motivate and generate a hugely emotive response along the way.

Of course, the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is no different. It has a vibrant, festival atmosphere, and countless stories to tell. But delve a little deeper and there’s more to this marathon and its surroundings. A lot more!

Jersey is the most southerly of the British Isles, closer to France than to the south coast of the United Kingdom, and claims to enjoy more sunshine hours than any of the other Isles.

Though part of the British Isles, the French street names and vast array of international cuisine in Jersey will catch your eye. The island features unspoilt coastlines, beautiful interior countryside, and a strong sporting culture. The vibrancy in the heart of the island, St Helier, provides a cultural yet modern balance for runners to explore.

The Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon returns for its twelfth year on 1 October and presents a perfect opportunity to combine an overseas visit with a marathon boasting one of the friendliest atmospheres in the world.

Jersey is extremely easy to reach from the UK with fifteen regional airports flying to the island on a daily basis.

The full marathon is ideal for runners who are looking to race in a friendly atmosphere while experiencing a stunning island run. The race itself is well known for its varied and scenic course, allowing runners to discover a range of breathtaking island panoramas. The certified course passes through seven parishes on the island, ensuring runners experience dramatic coastlines, country lanes, sections of waterfront and the island’s capital, St Helier, for the start and finish.

Teams of friends, family, colleagues and running clubs can combine to take on the Mourant Ozannes Relay Race, which follows the marathon course and is ideal for bringing together teams of friends, family, colleagues and running clubs, the race is well known for its teamwork and healthy competitiveness.

The 3K Fun Run is open to everyone over the age of nine and encourages young and old runners to participate in a fun and friendly race.

With an array of accommodation options, many of which are located close to the race start and finish area in St Helier, running in the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon is entirely stress free.

In 2016, the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon welcomed 2,500+ entrants, with over 60% of marathon runners coming from over twenty countries.

There are fantastic rewards for all finishers, who receive goodie bags, technical T-shirts, medals and other merchandise. As a slightly different reward, all marathon runners also receive a free Genuine Jersey beef burger and a refreshing pint of beer when they return to the marathon village.

It doesn’t have to end with the race either. While you’ll have sampled the beautiful sights around the island during your run, there’s still time to explore the stunning beaches and coves, try out the local cuisine, and enjoy the luxury hotels and spas.
