Georgie Bruinvels Runs Windsor

Boudavida Women's 10k

Georgie Bruinvels (Aldershot) enjoyed a busy and successful visit to Windsor with back to back victories in the Boudavida Women's 10K and Meridian Windsor Half Marathon. The Run Windsor weekend drew 5,000 to the attractive environs of Windsor Great Park for a two day festival of running, sports fashion and nutrition, all witnessed by runABC South reporter Alan Newman.

Georgie Bruinvels, representing race sponsors Hoka One One, easily retained her Boudavida Women's 10K title in 37:19. This was a minute slower than last year but the wind against the 620 athletes on the Long Walk climb was a significant factor in holding back times.

W45 master Dawn Godwin (Windle Valley Runners, 41:31) and Katie Ferguson (Clapham Chasers, 41:56) filled the podium and age-group leaders included W40 Ruth Dowse (42:36); W50 Judi Fitton (Runnymede Runners, 48:14); W55 Sue Ferguson (52:15) and W65 Sue James (Tonbridge, 53:23). Midpoint runner was W55 Catherine Edwards (1:05:32).

Age group winner, Sue James said: “The start climb was tough in the wind but I loved the course and the atmosphere. It was brilliant running back down Long Walk with Windsor Castle in the distance, getting nearer with every step”.

The following morning the sun put in a welcome appearance for Meridian Windsor Half Marathon with 3,927 finishing inside four hours. Top three men were Daniel Jarvis (St. Mary's AC, 1:09:49), Thomas Quirk (Lusaka RC, 1:12:01) from Zambia and Glen Winning (Bracknell Forest Runners, 1:12:35). The outstanding age-group performance was 1:40:36 by M70 Mike Bruce (Elmbridge RRC).

In the women's race Georgie Bruinvels shook off any fatigue to prevail in 1:20:22 from W40 masters Lesley Locks (Hart Road Runners, 1:22:39) and Anabel Granger (Bristol & West, 1:22:57).

Title sponsors Meridian Foods kept athletes well fuelled with samples of their nut butters and energy bars and the trade stands did brisk business with athletic apparel and footwear as race announcer James Thie whipped up the crowd.
