Age UK is diving into the neon-hued fashions and big hair of the 1980s to mark 30 years of delivering life changing services to older people in Exeter. As part of their pearl anniversary celebrations they’ve decided to turn the clock back for their Age UK Exeter 10K – the 2017 event will be an ‘80s Retro Run’!
Entries are now open for the Age UK Exeter 10K – 80s Retro Run on Sunday, 19 March. This is the only 10k run to start in Exeter City Centre and the mainly flat and fast course takes runners through the High Street and down to the tranquil Exeter Quayside. From here it's a beautiful and flat stretch alongside rivers and canals, finishing at the impressive Piazza Terracina.
This race will suit regular runners and beginners due to the relatively flat terrain. All monies raised support older people across Exeter and there will be a special medal for all finishers. Every year, Age UK Exeter helps and supports over 5,000 older people and their families in the city.
A recent survey listed the Top 10 fads and fashions from the 80s as Rubik's cube; jelly shoes; the mullet hairstyle; permed hair for men; fingerless gloves; neon leg warmers; jean jackets; parachute trousers; cabbage patch dolls and video games. Plenty there for fancy dress ideas!
