Age UK Exeter has announced that the opportunity, to dress up as your favourite superhero to help support over 5,000 older people and their families, has finally arrived. The date set for the 2019 Age UK Exeter Superhero 10K is Sunday, 16 June and until midnight on 1 January 2019 you can enter for less than £20!
Entries are limited to the first 1,000 applicants for this flat and fast celebration of running and charity fundraising based on Exeter Quay, just outside the heart of the city. Runners will gather and warm up on Piazza Terracina before making their way to the start.
The attractive route takes in Riverside Valley Park and Double Locks pathway, Bridge Road, Mill Road, Mill Lane, Northbrook Golf Course and the beautiful woodland leading to Salmon Pool Lane Bridge, Duck's Marsh, Belle Isle Park and Exeter Quay.
Age UK Exeter helps local people living with dementia, people who are lonely and isolated and there is online support for those who would like to use the event to help raise funds for this life changing charitable work.
Early Birds get the discounted entry fees of £19.95 (£17.95 if affiliated) saving £5 from the standard entry after 2 January. Runners may choose their own superhero costume for the day, whether that is Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Spiderman or something less obvious.
However, the official race website makes it clear that you can always run as yourself if you prefer as, in their own words, you are all heroes to Age UK Exeter, simply for taking part.
Previously, this race was themed as a 1980s Retro Run and the fifth annual run drew over 500 people and helped to raise £15,000 for Age UK Exeter. The winners were Philip Bridge (South West Road Runners, 34:39) and Melanie Brooks (W40 Dawlish Coasters, 41:29) and the top 80 runners were under-50 minutes.
