Runners Paying Tribute To Great

Alf Shrubb with the first recorded Mobot photobomb

Runners are getting set to pay their annual tribute to one of Britain’s greatest runners next month. The Alf Shrubb Memorial 5 will take place in Horsham, Sussex on 4 October. Born in nearby Slinford, Shrubb held 15 world records between 1903 and 1904 from the 2000 yards to the one-hour distance record.

He was twice international cross country champion and English cross country champion four times. He is a member of the England Athletics Hall of Fame.

There are cash prizes for the leading male and female athletes and for the leading veterans. There is also a prize for the best Alf Shrubb lookalike! Postal entries close on 26 September, but on the day entries will also be accepted.
