Always Aim High Events have announced a new race for 2015, the Scott Snowdonia Trail Marathon. With an ascent of 1685m over Wales’ highest peak, Snowdon, the event, scheduled for Sunday 26 July, is set to be one of the toughest of its kind in the UK.
The event, sponsored by running specialists Scott, is expected to attract over 500 participants in its first year. A half marathon option is also available, taking in some of the same fantastic trails as the full marathon as well as Padarn Country Park in the heart of the famous Dinorwig slate quarries.
The routes have been partly designed by GB mountain runner and Always Aim High Events Manager, Rob Samuel. Reflecting on its creation, Rob said runners are unlikely to find a more stunning course in the UK: “We have worked incredibly hard to design a route that explores the stunning trails, spectacular panoramic views, and tough climbs that make the Snowdonia National Park such a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts.”
Rob Samuel explains what the runners and their fanbase should expect from the Scott Snowdonia Trail Marathon: “As well as a fantastic day of racing, there will be masses to see and do to keep the spectators entertained. This will include music, a wide range of activities and loads of kids entertainment too. Most of all you're guaranteed an incredibly warm welcome from the local Welsh communities.
Entries for the event go on general sale on Monday 24 November at midday (12pm). Organisers, however, have offered runners a 10% discount if they pre-register for the event. Anyone interested will receive a link that will be able to take advantage of the discount 24 hours prior to entries going on sale. More information can be found at the Snowdonia Trail Marathon website.
