It was good night for parkrun at the recent Pro-Active London Awards for Sport and Physical Activity held at City Hall. parkrun picked up the award In the "Partner of the Year' category, for the Pro-Active London - South region, one of five partnerships in London. Parkrun has been working hard with partnerships in the South, East, Central, North and West.
The prestigious annual ceremony honours all those individuals, groups and organisations who made an outstanding contribution at all levels of sport in the city over the past year.
Parkrun launched in London in the south, but has since spread throughout London to delivery its free weekly timed 5k running events. The organisation now has an objective for a parkrun in each of London's 33 boroughs.
Another step in that direction is the launch of the Hampstead Heath parkrun this Saturday. The Hamstead Heath event has come after two years of campaigning for an event on the well-used heath. It becomes the 19th member of the parkrun London family.
Also at the award ceremony, which took place last week, there was recognition for parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt, one of the nominees in the Outstanding Contribution to Sport category.
