Former GB international, English 5000m champion and sub-four-minute miler Mark Draper knows how to run a great race. Now, as a race director, he intends to use all his experience and energy to promote a superb race when the Bedford Half Marathon and Mini Miles come to town on Saturday 2 September 2017.
The course will be challenging and attractive in equal measure, with the start and finish in historic Priory Park, featuring a lap of the lake, followed by a flat and fast dash to Danish Camp, returning for a second circuit of Priory Park and a rousing reception at the lakeside.
The area is dominated by the River Great Ouse and the Mini Miles will be held on the traffic-free paths within Priory Park. Danish Camp is a popular place for walking, cycling and viewing wildfowl and could be an excellent spectator spot for the half marathon with runners passing the entrance three times.
Around 2,500 runners are expected at the inaugural Bedford Half Marathon, with the official race charity The Sick Children’s Trust. Participants will be able to enjoy the post-race atmosphere at the Picnic Party while cheering on the children in the Mini Mile races.
