Runners Square-Up For Global Challenge

Square Mile Relay runnerIf the mere thought of going round in circles makes you want to run a mile then the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay could be just the thing for City slickers. The tenth annual race takes place on Thursday, 22 September and is part of a truly global event with London setting the target for the rest of the world to challenge.

The London leg of the Global Race Series will start at Guildhall Yard and follows the unique one-mile course in the heart of the square mile, as more than 115 teams battle to prove themselves the fastest company in the City.

The race format requires teams of 10, with every participant taking on the one-mile route before handing the baton to the next business colleague to compete. All runners and spectators can celebrate with food, drink, music and live DJ at the after-party following the race.

It is not all about the glory and company bragging rights, of course, as the winning team gets to win £5,000 to donate to their chosen charity. Last year, Team Barclays were first back to Guildhall Yard in 53:39. Eleven teams beat the hour and 107 teams finished in 1:24:25. There are trophies for the top three teams, the fastest individual and a new award for the first mixed team with at least four females.
James Hassett, executive director, Square Mile Sport said, “The London course always sets an exciting challenge for the runners and I look forward to seeing the winning team set the pace for the other six cities in our global race series to chase!”
The race takes part in seven major cities: London, Shanghai, Singapore, Hong Kong, Dubai, Sydney and New York, with further cities to be added in 2017.
