A strong international field, a superstar race starter, 12,000-strong entry, a glorious coastal town, a new 10k event and packed crowds – this Sunday’s Brighton Marathon is shaping up to be a cracker.
Now into its fifth edition, the event has risen significantly in status every year and is now established as the No2 UK marathon behind London.
Its rising stock is underlined this year with none other than British marathon legend Paula Radcliffe starting the race. Also new for 2014 is the addition of the BM10K for runners preferring to tackle the quarter distance of the main event. The curtain raiser gets underway at 8:30am with the main event at 9:15am.
The elite field includes defending champion Dominic Kangor (Kenya), Pat Razzo (USA), Tanith Maxwell (South Africa) and Tomoyuki Morita (Japan). Meanwhile, the women’s 10k field will feature an intriguing domestic dust up between GB internationals Alyson Dixon and Louise Damen. Expect a boisterous atmosphere and healthy crowds.
