The 88th Christow Show takes place on Saturday, 19 August 2017, in a delightfully rural Devon setting near Exeter. Local club, Maverick Runners, will again be organising a 5k cross country race as part of the activities at the village located on the fringe of Dartmoor National Park.
The 5k course (pictured) is nearly all on country tracks and across fields. The terrain will be rough in places and may be wet but there are some short tarmac stretches so it is not suitable for spikes. The start and finish is within the main show ground but advance entry includes an entrance ticket for the show in the £5 fee. A map of the course is available here
Last year's winners were Richard Edwards (21:14) and Sally Judd (23:35) and the last finisher recorded 38:48. The minimum age for entry is 12 and there are trophies for first two men and women and first under-16 junior finisher.
Christow village is situated in the Teign Valley so expect a few testing hills. The 12th century Artichoke Inn is the village hub, serving locals and tourists with real ales and quality food. The area is a popular venue for walkers, runners and cyclists.
The race is organised by Maverick Runners, a small group of runners who formed in 2015 who believe running should be about enjoyment regardless of ability, supporting running friends to achieve their goals whatever they may be.
The show itself is well worth a visit with classes for dogs, horses and ponies, classic cars and all manner of produce. Delicious Devonshire delights will be available to consume to replenish competitors after their exertions.
Entry forms are available from race director, Daryl Milford, 4 Courtenay Park, Newton Abbot, TQ12 2HD or email Daryl here
