Following their victory at the Bupa Great North 10K, Gateshead Harriers have won a place in the draw alongside Stockport Harriers to win the Bupa Great Run Club Challenge, which will see the successful team make an all-expenses five day trip to Africa's biggest road race, the Great Ethiopian Run.
Next on the race schedule is the Bupa Great Edinburgh Run, with Scottish club runners preparing to make their mark on the competition. Clubs in the south of England get their chance at the the Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth on 27 October.
After their 12 counting runners averaged a time of 43:52, Gatesheard Harriers staked their claim for the once in a lifetime trip. To qualify, the winners of each race - based on the average time of their fastest men and women to finish - will be placed in a draw after the Bupa Great South Run.
The successful club will see their 14 contestants travel for a long weekend stay from Thursday to Monday at the 4 Star 'Yaya Africa Athletics Village' just outside Addis Ababa, and will have a personal meeting with Haile Gebrselassie.
David Newton, Nova International's managing director, commented: "The Great Run Club Challenge is a fantastic opportunity for British athletes to take part, offering the opportunity to visit a country with a mythical history whilst also competing in one of the world's greatest road running events."
