Double Gold winning Olympic legend Dame Kelly Holmes will be with the Run Reigate team at the Running Awards at London’s O2 Arena on 20 April hoping to scoop Gold for the best Half Marathon in the UK.
Dame Kelly Holmes Chasing Run Reigate Gold
Launched in 2014 and sponsored by sport giants Intersport and Brooks, Run Reigate has gone from strength to strength, attracting almost 5,000 runners last year and has so far raised over £500,000 for many local charities including Kelly's Heroes; Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance; Children’s Trust; St Catherine’s Hospice and many others.
Runners can choose from either the Half Marathon or 10k distances, enjoying fully closed roads and an exciting event village in Priory Park with live music, free attractions for children and a gourmet food village, perfect for hungry runners.
Last September, Dame Kelly Holmes helped launch the event in Priory Park, managing to give countless high fives and selfies with ecstatic runners. Dame Kelly also awarded medals to the 1,200 local school children in Run Reigate’s unique cumulative half marathon for children which was launched last year and attracted 1,200 kids from 154 schools.
Dame Kelly said “This is a fantastic community event and what amateur running is all about. The atmosphere was amazing and I’m looking forward to coming back in September. It would be lovely to win best Half Marathon at the awards next month – come on everyone, WE WANT GOLD!!”
Race Director David Kelly said: “It was so exciting having Dame Kelly at Run Reigate, she is a local hero who has inspired so many people in the UK but especially in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Our runners couldn’t believe their eyes, getting a high five from running Royalty."
