Double Olympic champion and Garmin ambassador Dame Kelly Holmes (pictured) is set to officially start the 2017 Simplyhealth Great South Run on Sunday 22nd October.
Dame Kelly Holmes To Start Great South Run
Dame Kelly will be cheering on ‘Team Garmin’, a group of like-minded fitness influencers and media who are all looking to 'Beat Yesterday', at the annual invasion of Portsmouth by up to 20,000 runners of all abilities who will have the chance to run with the world’s best athletes.
The Great South Run concludes a fantastic year of running events for Great Run, with 2017 marking Garmin’s first year as ‘Official Wearable Technology Partner’, in a three-year partnership.
The Great Run series covers events across the country from Aberdeen to Portsmouth, including the world’s biggest half marathon - Simplyhealth Great North Run, with 57,000 participants and Europe’s biggest 10K - Simplyhealth Great Manchester Run, with 300,000 finishers in its 15-year history.
This year, Garmin will be showcasing a wide selection of the Forerunner range, including the Forerunner 235 as worn by Dame Kelly Holmes, who commented: “I am looking forward to being a Garmin ambassador at the Great South Run. It will be great to be amongst the runners and experience the atmosphere on race day with Garmin”.
Great Britain's Chris Thompson (Aldershot) is hoping to defend his Simplyhealth Great South Run trophy having recently beaten Callum Hawkins to the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run half marathon title.
The women's race should feature a domestic battle for supremacy between London 2017 world championship marathon representative Charlotte Purdue (Aldershot) and 2014 European Cross Country champion, Gemma Steel (Charnwood).
