Serpentine Runners Get The Ealing Feeling

action from the start at Ealing Half

Serpentine Running Club secured a double success at the sixth Ealing Half Marathon on Sunday (24 September). Jonathan Poole and Isabel Clark, from the club that takes its name from Hyde Park's central lake, took the main awards from 4,211 starters.

Lammas Park, Ealing enjoyed a beautiful autumn day of outstanding sporting achievement and community support under clear blue skies with unseasonably warm temperatures. The closed road route around the West London borough featured superb support from spectators, residents and local businesses along the course.
The race is a firm fixture in the autumn running calendar and the field welcomed runners of many nationalities who had come to soak up the famous #EalingFeeling alongside plenty of local runners, charity runners and an impressive squad of 275 Ealing Eagles club members.
Jonathan Poole (1:08:05) survived a strong challenge from Austin Roth (USA, 1:08:22) and only made certain of his victory in the closing stages. Alex Milne (Enfield & Haringey, 1:09:22) was third. The women’s race was dominated by Isabel Clark (1:17:55) with six minutes to spare over W40 Isobel Rea (West 4 Harriers, 1:24:01) and W35 Mandy Dohren (Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets, 1:24:33).
The Ealing Mini Mile kicked off race weekend in style on Saturday (23 September) with more than 1,000 young runners completing the one-mile course around Lammas Park. Five races took place over the course of the afternoon and it really set the scene for the half marathon.
Race director Sandra Courtney commented: “We are absolutely thrilled with the turn-out for the 2017 Ealing Half Marathon and would like to thank all our runners and supporters for making it such a wonderful success! It was once again a huge community event that brought everyone together, which is exactly what we were aiming for when we launched the race six years ago. It is now a key date in the diary for runners all over the UK and abroad and we’d like to congratulate all those who crossed the finish line this weekend”.
Entries to the 2018 Ealing Half are open now so don’t miss out on the special early bird rate.
