Organisers of the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon have announced that the Ealing Mini Mile is now open for entries and that it will take place on a new day. Due to the massive demand from young runners wanting to be a part of this popular sporting event the Mini Mile will now take place the day before Ealing Half Marathon, on Saturday 23 September, 2017.
Growth Spurt For Ealing Mini Milers
Moving the Mini Mile to a different day for the first time will allow for a greater number of participants with 1500 places available compared to 400 last year. The Mini Mile was first held in 2013 to give young runners aged 6-16 the chance to experience a big sporting event and the thrill of crossing the main finish line.
The race has sold out every year, with all places snapped up in under 24 hours in 2016, so anyone wishing to take part is encouraged to sign up promptly. The young runners cover a one-mile route around Ealing’s Lammas Park and the 2017 Ealing Mimi Mile will take place from 2pm on Saturday, 23 September, with wave starts.
Each year a different local school is selected to design the Mini Mile tee-shirt and this year's winning design was created by children from Ealing’s Mount Carmel Primary School.
The current Mini Mile course records are held by Joseph Barnes (5:18) and Charlotte Buckley (Thames Valley Harriers, 5:43). The race awards prizes to the winners in various categories and every runner gets their own finish time, medal, unique T-shirt and water.
Events co-ordinator Sandra Courtney commented: “We are delighted to announce the 2017 Ealing Mini Mile is now open for entries and that we will be able to accommodate many more young runners by moving the race to the Saturday before Ealing Half Marathon. There is always a fantastic atmosphere for the Mini Mile and it will be a brilliant way to kick off race weekend. Over 700 places sold within three days of the opening of registration and we are expecting the 2017 Ealing Mini Mile to sell out soon”.
The entry fee for the Ealing Mini Mile is £10 per child and full details are on the Mini Mile website.
