Entries Open For Tunbridge Wells Half

runners at the Tunbridge Wells half marathon

Entries are now open for the award-winning Lifestyle Renault Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon on Sunday, February 26, 2012. The popular race sells out every year, and organisers, Tunbridge Wells Harriers, expects the event to be completely sold out by late December. Last year hundreds of disappointed runners missed out so the advice is to enter early and secure your place.

The 13.1 mile hilly course is a single loop through some of Kent's prettiest countryside and has a reputation for being challenging, well organised and one of the most popular events on the calendar. One highlight of the race is Spring Hill at Fordcombe, which comes at around mile 7 and lasts for a lung busting one and a half miles.

The event is considered to be one of the best races in the south-east and attracts a wide range of runners from beginners tackling their first half marathon through to Olympians testing themselves on the hilly course.

''We are thrilled to be title sponsor for the second year running" commented Paul Murrells, Group Sales Director of Lifestyle Europe Ltd 'It is an honour to be associated with such a fantastic and well organised event and we are delighted to be able to support the race in this way. We'll also have a team of 30 runners taking part from Lifestyle Renault all raising money for the Pickering Cancer Drop in Centre in Tunbridge Wells. 2012 promises to be even more successful than ever'.

The official charities for 2012 are the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust and the Pickering Cancer Drop In Centre in Tunbridge Wells. All profits from the race are donated to charity as well as sponsorship raised by individual runners. The race hopes to raise in excess of £20,000.

For the first time in the history of the race, there will be a £1000 bonus for anyone breaking the male or female course records, provided by title sponsor Lifestyle Renault. They currently stand at 1:05.33 (Barry Royden, 1999) and for the women 1:13.56 (Liz Yelling, 2011).

In 2011, Runners World readers voted the race as 97% overall and 97% of runners stated they would 'do it again'. In 2009 the race won the Runners World 'Most Improved Event Award'.
