Get away from the road races of London and enjoy the clean air and scenic surroundings of the Grand Union Canal.
This classic point-to-point half marathon begins in Uxbridge (a short hop down from the Piccadilly and Metropolitan Line station) and follows the iconic, historical waterside all the way up to Watford (for Metropolitan, Overground and National Rail services).
This race is offered twice per year, in peak trail running times of April and November, to make the best of the changing natural landscape. You’ll pass by houseboats that’ll make you want to jump aboard, pubs and country manors to inspire future trips, and stunning nature reserves that’ll make you wonder how you can only be 30 minutes from central London.
With a strict runner limit and a waved start to ensure plenty of room on narrow sections of towpath, you’ll have room to enjoy the adventure of the trails whilst amongst great company at all paces.
With the usual Purple Patch Running top-notch service, you’d be wise to book early and use their coach service – allowing you to register and leave a car at the finish, then be taken right to the start line. If you’re using public transport, just drop your bag at the start and it’ll be taken to the finish ready for you to pick up and head straight off for a glorious Sunday pub reward.
