Organisers behind the Hastings Half Marathon will put £1 from every entry to next year's race towards helping people to recover from the Haiyan Philippine Disaster. This means a figure in the region of £5000 could be raised from the race which takes place on 23 March.
Organisers intend to use the money via their fellow Lions Clubs in the Philippines, who will advise and arrange the most appropriate aid to help the population recover in the vital months to come.
This could mean supplying for example new fishing boats and equipment, housing and schools where needed. As entries come from all over the UK for the 30th edition of the race, all entrants will be able to follow how their donations are being used at the event website.
Runners are also being encouraged to raise funds for the appeal in the normal way of obtaining sponsorship for taking part in the event. To enter for the event, which doubles as the Sussex Athletics Half Marathon Championships visit www.hastings-half.co.uk
