There were over 500 finishers at the Sevenoaks Rotary 10k in Kent on Sunday in fresh, but bright conditions. One of the tougher 10k events on the south east race calendar, this two lap race held entirely within Knole Park offered a bumpy ride for runners.
Participants followed varied terrain, sometimes tarmac, sometimes grass, sometimes gravel, but it was nearly always undulating and delivered a tough, but rewarding challenge for runners of all standards.
Sunday's race was won by Duncan Marsden of Bow Valley Harriers in 34:56. There was a real tussle behind him with Paul Hayman of Serpentine Running Club taking second place from Alex Gibbins of Blackheath & Bromley, with both being timed at 34:59.
Hot on their heels came fourth-placed Mark Steime of Bow Valley Harriers in 35:04. In seventeenth place came the leading lady Maria Heslop of Paddock Wood AC in 39:53. This was the fifth year of the event with money being raised for both the Kent Air Ambulance and The Paula Carr Diabetes Trust.
