Hillingdon Set For Half Marathon

The west London borough of Hillingdon is set to host a half marathon next spring as mass participation running returns to the area. The 13.1mile event will take place on March 23 next year, starting and finishing at Brunel University near Uxbridge. After a one-mile circuit of the campus a field of up to 1,000 will complete two circuits through Cowley, Yiewsley and Hillingdon.

James Shipley of event organisers ATW said: "Nothing has been in place like it for the last 10 years which seemed a shame since Hillingdon has been such a positive place for long-distance running. The original Olympic Marathon ran through the area, and the current UK five-mile record was also run in the borough."

The event has been scheduled for three weeks before London Marathon when it will be an ideal preparation for those in the final stages of their training schedule. ATW has teamed up with Yelling Performance, a company owned by Olympian Liz Yelling and her husband, Martin, to offer training plans for beginner, intermediate and advanced runners, once registered.

The training plans are online now at www.activetrainingworld.com, and you can enter the race at www.hillingdonhalf.co.uk. Entry costs £20 for club affiliated runners and £22 for non-affiliates.
