Sunday 3 September
The Jersey Spartan Autumn Half Marathon is a friendly community event which is the most southerly half marathon in the British Isles. This year the local branch of MIND is the recipient charity.
The course meanders from the Athletics track in St Clement at sea level uphill after the first mile through scenic country lanes to the northern eastern parishes and passes several local heritage sites. At half distance the runner gets a spectacular view across the Bay of Grouville before looking up to see the amazing Mont Orgeuil castle on the descent to the pier. The second half of the race mainly undulates along the coast road past the Royal Jersey Gold club & statue of Harry Vardon followed by some beautiful rocky bays with a number of adjacent Martello towers and occasional headwind. On return to FB the runner completes 1.3 laps of the track.
Each Half runner shall receive chip timing, water, a technical T-shirt, a medal, a goody bag and post-race snack. For the first time the half marathon can be run as an individual or by a relay team. The three-person relay requires each team member to complete approximately 4.3 miles with changeover points at St Martin School and Seymour Pub. The relay is a fabulous stepping stone event for parkrunners. Coincidentally the Jersey parkrun celebrates its 100th event on the preceding Saturday 2 September.
For those eager to fill their weekend with further enjoyment, the Weekender music festival takes place in the parish of Trinity on the Saturday and Sunday.
Travel to the island via sea with Condor Ferries from Poole or Portsmouth, or by air links from easyJet, Flybe or British Airways from various regional airports.
