Schoolchildren Team Up For Hospice

Muscliff pupils

Around 25 friends who all attend Muscliff Primary School in Bournemouth have teamed up to support Julia’s House by running at this year’s Bournemouth Marathon Festival (BMF) held in October.

The year 5 pupils from the school will be taking part in the junior races at the BMF which is expected to attract over 10,000 people to Dorset on 3-4 October. Some of Muscliff’s pupils have already been hard at work fundraising with their justgiving pages and will be holding cake sales as well as a whole host of activities to raise funds.

Julia’s House is the only children’s hospice charity in Dorset dedicated to helping life-limited children and their families across the county and in South Wiltshire. This October will be the third edition of the BMF and Julia’s House have been involved with this event since its launch in 2013 and are excitedly anticipating how they will do this year.

Steve Mills, Challenge Fundraiser of Julia’s House said: “This is our third year at the marathon festival and we are looking forward to even more young people getting involved in 2015! To have to have 25 class friends from one school all running and raising money for us is exciting and inspiring.  We’d love them help us raise even more than the £50,000 we raised at the Marathon Festival in 2014.”

The children from Muscliff are also looking forward to this upcoming race and for many it will be their first of its kind. Mia Attreed, 9, Muscliff Primary School pupil said:  “I am really excited to take part with my class friends in the run, for many of us it is the first time we will run this far. We are all going to meet up in the summer for practice runs and have some fun at exercising classes.”

The junior races start on Bournemouth Prom and finish near the BMF Hub in the Lower Gardens, the beautiful coastal route takes in the full length of Bournemouth Pier. Each finisher receives a medal, wicking technical finishers t-shirt, race recovery pack, chip timed result and a fantastic running experience.

This year’s races will take place from 2pm on Saturday 3 October ahead of the Supersonic 10K and Speed of Light 5K and one day before the half marathon and marathon. For full entry information for all six races, visit the BMF website.
