Organisers of the CLIF Bar Kent Roadrunner Marathon (Saturday 30 May) are looking forward to the fourth renewal of their multi-lap event that has established itself as a quick race with a great social/fun dimension. This year the race welcomes broadcaster Vassos Alexander. Vassos, wing man to Chris Evans on Radio 2's Breakfast Show, is one of a sell-out field which includes Daniel Hull (Waverley) and Michele Bottone (Serpentine) who will be chasing the cash bonus on offer for a course record.
Hull ran an excellent 2:40 at London in April, while Bottone completed the same event in 2:44. Both look capable of challenging Adam Stokes’ course record of 2:44:13. In the ladies’ field there is a welcome return by Hannah Oldroyd. The Yorkshire athlete was last seen at Cyclopark where she took silver in the 2014 England Athletics 50K Championships. With a PB of 2:50 she is favourite to challenge Jen Salter’s course record.
The 17-lap event has traditional race prizes available plus its trademark 'showboating' contest for displaying some tomfoolery whilst running a marathon. This latter event is entirely optional, but experience in recent years has shown it is something many runners embrace. We look forward to seeing how competitors respond this year to the theme of cow-related silliness!
The race starts at 9am at Cyclopark (DA11 7NP) with spectators welcome at this dedicated sporting venue. More details at the event website.
