And The Winner Of Best UK Road Race Is...

Surrey Half promo picJust as the bleary-eyed winners of last night's BAFTAs are recovering from their glitzy after awards parties its off to the Dog and Duck for a pie and a pint for the hard working people from AAT Events. Their flagship Mercer Surrey Half Marathon has won the UK's Best Road Race 2016 award and their 11.7km Hogs Back road race achieved runner-up spot!

The annual Racecheck Awards are entirely based on voluntary reviews by actual participants and Mercer Surrey Half marathon, based at Guildford Leisure Centre,  received an outstanding 4.69/5 rating, with the Hogs Back not far behind on 4.66/5. The bronze medal race was the Rockingham 10 by SBR Events (4.58/5).
Reviews of Mercer Surrey Half typically praise the faultless organisation, friendly atmosphere and even the glorious weather apparently arranged each March. Comments include: 'everything you want from a race and more' and 'the best half marathon I’ve ever done'. Helen, a previous participant, said: “The organisation really was faultless...I would not hesitate to recommend or sign up again.”
Runners can still enter this year's event on Sunday, 12 March and download a free training plan to prepare. However, look sharp as the event is typically sold out in February. The course record by Sammy Nyokaye (1:02:49) set in 2015 is a clear indication of the PB potential of the stunning route. Last year there were 3,355 finishers in 3:35:53 and more than 250 ran below 90 minutes.
Race director Toby Jenkins said: “From all of us at AAT Events and the Mercer Surrey Half Marathon, we’d like to say 'Thank you' to all our runners who have taken the time to review their experiences with us.” He added: “It’s great to know that the UK’s best running races are happening right here in Surrey. If you’ve not joined the fun yet, do join us. Everyone is welcome.”
