The 2013 date of one of the UK's top half marathons was announced yesterday. The Mizuno Reading half marathon is scheduled for Sunday 17 March and 19,000 entries, beginners through to elite runners, are expected.
The organisation of this premier event was taken over by national retailer Sweatshop in 2003 whose aim was to make the event all about the runner and the creation of an unrivalled running experience. Sweatshop has made numerous changes to the course in recent years resulting in a fast and flat course and an amazing finish in the magnificent Madejski Stadium.
The Mizuno Reading half marathon course includes the spectator-filled streets of the city centre and the beautiful grounds of Reading University campus. The race culminates in a once in a lifetime finish at the Madejski Stadium with 15,000 people cheering you over the finish line. Whether you run for fun, run to stay fit, run for a club, or run professionally; the Mizuno Reading half marathon is superbly organised, friendly and has a reputation second to none.
Mizuno has a long heritage of sponsoring top running events. The Mizuno Reading half marathon is one of the biggest regional mass participation events in the UK having raised over £235,000 for charity last year. The race joins other major European events in the Mizuno sponsorship portfolio including marathons in Milan and Amsterdam as well as the Nice half marathon.
Talking at the launch, Mizuno UK Head of Sport Paul Stevens commented, "It's an important part of Mizuno's strategy to support running events that put the runner first and help get more people running. The Reading half marathon does just that and as our premier event in the UK we are expecting a fantastic day with record numbers taking part."
