Volunteers are needed to join the army of helpers at the sixth Milton Keynes (MK) Marathon weekend, 30 April to 1 May where around 10,000 runners will be taking part in the MK Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, Rocket 5K and the Superhero Fun Run. The logistics of an event of this size mean a team of over 500 people is required to ensure everything goes according to plan.
This race is ranked in the top 10 UK marathons, is an AIMS/IAAF Grade A certified race and has BARR Gold accreditation for outstanding event management. Runners follow a scenic route and finish in the stadium MK where they will receive a technical T-shirt, goody bag and an iconic medal based on the famous concrete cows.
There are a variety of roles available including marshalling, staffing water stations and handing out medals at the stadium. All volunteers will be rewarded for their efforts with an official race crew T-shirt, packed lunch and an invitation to an evening social event. Most importantly, they will receive the gratitude and appreciation of thousands of runners and the organisers.
In addition and new for 2017 is a commemorative MK Marathon pin badge, showing the number and year of the event and given to every volunteer.
Event Director Andy Hully summarises the importance of this role saying: “We are indebted to our team of race crew volunteers who work tirelessly to make the event one of the best-organised marathons in the country.”
