A Mountain To Run

Everest MarathonSports Tours International is offering the chance to run the highest marathon in the world at Tenzing Hilary Everest Marathon on 25 June. The event was first held in 2003 for local runners but has since grown to include runners from 20+ nations.

Starting at Everest Basecamp (5364m), the route is mostly downhill on rough tracks and trails, through the spectacular homeland of the Sherpa people to Namche Bazaar (3446m). Although mostly downhill, there are many rocky and exposed sections of trail, with snow and ice at the highest level.

The event includes four nights in the capital Kathmandu and an 11-day trek to Everest Basecamp, including additional days for acclimatisation. Runners will be accompanied by expert local guides, and a full support crew including doctors.
