If you’re thinking of entering this year’s New York City Marathon, you’ll be joining running royalty! After her much-celebrated return to Boston Marathon in April (50 years after making history as the first woman to officially complete the race), Kathrine Switzer is set to run in this year’s race in NYC on 5 November.
Switzer (pictured left) said of her decision to run at New York: “I surprised myself at Boston because I went into it tired. I ran well and I didn’t want to let my Boston fitness go, so I decided to run New York.”
The race goes from Staten Island, through New York’s five boroughs, to finish in Central Park, attracting huge crowd support of around two million spectators.
Another high-profile entrant to the race is comedian Kevin Hart. He says he was inspired to sign up for New York City Marathon following Eliud Kichoge’s 2:00:25 marathon time earlier this year as part of Nike’s #Breaking2 project.
Hart commented: “After witnessing that type of greatness, it inspired me to get my own.”
Other well-known faces taking part will be Catfish star Nev Schulman and singer-songwriter Prince Royce. Previous celebrities who’ve completed the race include Katie Holmes, Ryan Reynolds, and P. Diddy.
