Lactic tunnels of love. The fun is in tents!

Night of 10,000m PBs

It's impossible to ignore The Night of the 10,000m PBs on this weekend's race calendar. Established in 2013 with the dual goals of improving British distance racing standards and making 10,000m racing more aspirational, the seventh edition takes place at Parliament Hill Athletics Track tomorrow (Saturday 6 July).

The event has incorporated British Championships since 2014; Rio Olympic Team GB trials in 2016; IAAF World Championship trials in 2017 and in 2018 added the European 10,000m Cup with 27 nations competing.

It's European Cup time again in 2019 with Eilish McColgan set to lead GB&NI women's team. McColgan will be joined by Charlotte Arter, Sarah Inglis, Mhairi MacLennan, Verity Ockenden and Alice Wright. The British men's sextet are Ben Connor, Nick Goolab, Jack Gray, Andrew Heyes, Adam Hickey and Matt Leach.

Host club Highgate Harriers have long espoused the belief that racing atmosphere is pivotal to assisting performances and this mantra has become the mission for this special event. And if the track action ever wanes there are trackside distractions galore to keep the fans entertained.

No other running event can boast the #Lane3BeerNCheer ethos, circus entertainments, ‘lactic tunnels of love’, home straight pedestrian bridge, infield spectating, live music, back straight DJ and the annual Legends Seminar. What's more it is completely free to go and watch!

Cherry Alexander of British Athletics is a big fan of the event: “You absolutely need to be there. Even if you're a jogger yourself you'll be so motivated to go out for your run. But best of all you're cheering on athletes who are trying to fulfil their dreams!”

The 11-race programme starts at 1:00pm with an Inter-Schools Relay, then there are nine seeded 10,000m races culminating in the Women's Elite 10,000m at 8:45pm and the Men's Elite 10,000m at 9:30pm.
