Entries have opened for the National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run, a major running event staged in the heart of the new Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. There are 10,000 places available for the event in London’s newest park which played host to a memorable Olympic and Paralympic Games two summers ago.
The five-mile run will take place on Sunday 20 July, following last year’s successful run which was the first event to be held in the Olympic Stadium since the closing ceremony of London 2012. The popular event is being staged by Nova International, the world’s leading organiser of mass participation sports events on behalf of Newham Council and supported by The National Lottery.
Runners will enjoy fabulous views of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park following its redevelopment since London 2012. The course will take runners close to iconic venues, such as the Lee Valley VeloPark, London Aquatics Centre and the Copper Box Arena. Participants will also enjoy views of the ArcelorMIttal Orbit, East Village and beautiful new parklands and riverways.
This year’s event will not include a run within the former Olympic Stadium as the venue is currently being redeveloped. However, anyone who successfully gains entry into ‘The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run’ on 20 July will also be given ‘Priority Entry’ to gain a place in the 2015 event which will once again finish in the Stadium.
Brendan Foster, chairman of Nova International, said: “The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run on 20 July will give people a wonderful experience of running in the newly-developed Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The event is bound to reignite many fantastic memories of London 2012 and we are working to make this event one of our best ever.”
10,000 people will be able to take part in the National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run which will be staged over a five-mile distance – while 2,000 people will be able to participate in the 1.5-mile Family Run.
Applications for the five-mile ‘The National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run’ are available from 10am today (26 March) via the event website and applications for the Family Run will open on Wednesday 2 April.
