The Oxford Half Marathon returns on Sunday 8 October with a festival feel thanks to new organisers Virgin Sport. Party on and run in the city of dreaming spires…
Runners can look forward to a fast, flat course around the historic university city, passing notable landmarks including the Bodleian Library, Sheldonian Theatre, Ashmolean Museum and the Radcliffe Camera. The University of Oxford is the main attraction and forms the backdrop to a scenic race with a 9.30am start near Trinity College and the Clarendon Building.
The race is one of three events staged this year by Virgin Sport and comes hot on the heels of Hackney (30 April) and The British 10K (9 July). The action moves across the pond on 14-15 October to San Francisco, which plays host to a half marathon plus a Twin Peaks Mile Challenge. Virgin Sport aims to host these festivals of running and entertainment in cities and communities around the world.
The Virgin Sport Oxford Half Marathon is part of the organisers’ ethos, namely that of bringing people together through sport, culture, music and entertainment. There will be local bands and DJs along every mile of the course to create a street party vibe while providing the runners with some additional motivation. With more entertainment along with local food at the Race Village in the University Parks.
All entrants will receive an Asics technical T-shirt, medal, tote bag, spectator app and free race photos.
