parkrun has teamed up with the organisers of Cardiff Half Marathon to give 10 runners the opportunity to take part in next year’s race for free. The partnership is part of an IAAF drive to increase participation in running.
Next year’s event will be of added significance as the city plays host to the 22nd edition of the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. This will be the largest athletics event to be staged in the country since Wales hosted the Commonwealth Games in 1958.
With the date set for Saturday 26 March, 2016, the race will also be ideal preparation for many athletes competing in the Rio Olympic Games 147 days later. While the elites will by vying for Olympic qualification, it is expected that as many as 25,000 runners will take part.
In addition to the race place, which has a value of £59, winners will be able to take advantage of professional training advice, schedules and equipment plus the chance to attend a training evening hosted by an endurance expert and to participate in a Cardiff University research project.
Prospective entrants must have participated in a parkrun event but not yet made the full step to half marathon distance. If you would like to be considered, just fill out the application form and put forward the reasons why you deserve a place.
