Last weekend's Poole parkrun was the source of considerable attention as the event recorded the fastest ever time on the parkrun circuit. A total of 14 runners completed the 5k course in under 16 minutes, while 24 managed to finish in under 17 minutes
Despite wet and windy conditions, the event also witnessed a record turnout of 311 runners. The exceptionally quick times were attributed to the fact a host of local clubs, including Poole AC, Bournemouth AC and Southampton AC, organised a friendly yet competitive clash for the Saturday morning event.
Richard Horton of Poole AC took the spoils, finishing in 15:19. Ian Habgood of Bournemouth AC came in second 15:23, while club partner Steve Way took third position in 15:31. Surprisingly, the Poole course record of 15:13, set by Steve Way, stayed intact despite the onslaught of strong finishes.
