Richard Pitcairn-Knowles is a man of letters - 15 of which comprise his surname! Now he has a new accolade to add to his impressive curriculum vitae as he is the oldest owner of a 250 parkrun tee shirt in the world after setting his best time for Lullingstone last Saturday (19 November).
Richard, who will be 84 next month, was accompanied by three generations of his family and a large group of supporters from Sevenoaks AC on his 250th run. The retired osteopath improved his M80 course record to 34:21, yet it was a bitter sweet celebration for the octogenarian from Sevenoaks.
There must be something in the water in West Kent as Richard's team mate Ron Denney took the M80 best down to an impressive 34:04, a few seconds ahead of his elder statesman!
There was delight for the Pitcairn-Knowles dynasty, however, as grandson Bede led the field (18:14) and granddaughter Polly (23:30) was first finisher in the women's category.
Richard selected Lullingstone as an attractive local venue for his historic effort and later quipped that he would be keen to return to set an M85 best: "When they have flattened out the hills a bit more"!
