Leading running and fitness online retail specialist realbuzz.com has joined the Richmond RUNFEST team as the title sponsor. And to celebrate, an additional event has been added to the packed programme – Richmond 5K: The Pirate Run.
Richmond's top race weekend will now be known as realbuzz.com Richmond RUNFEST and will take place on 15-16 September. Although standard entries have closed in record time for the Kew Gardens 10K on Saturday and Richmond Half Marathon and Richmond Marathon on Sunday, there are still a few charity places available for late entrants.
The support of realbuzz.com was unveiled at their flagship Piccadilly Circus store last Wednesday (25 July) evening, followed by a 5k training run round St James' Park with former Olympian and World Championships 800m medallist Jenny Meadows.
Richmond 5K: The Pirate Run will be held entirely within the confines of Old Deer Park, Richmond, with numerous Peter Pan themed surprises en route. The modest entry fee of £12 will include chip timing, NIKE technical race T-shirt and a great medal but there are only 500 places available for the latest addition to Saturday's timetable, which also includes Kids' Mile races.
Richmond RUNFEST Race Director, Tom Bedford is pretty excited about the new event as he told runABC South: “Our new 5k is a much anticipated addition to our line up and we can’t wait to unveil the numerous surprises we have planned for the route. With our theme confirmed as Neverland, Peter Pan, mermaids, lost boys, crocodiles, Captain Hook and the Pirates of the Jolly Rodger will create a very magical race experience for thousands of families."
While many of the details are a closely guarded secret, runABC South can reveal the course will pass the live music stage on a lapped course and will include a magical tunnel section that is rumoured to be a crocodile's lair. So we suggest you make it snappy in that area!
