On the eve of this year's race, the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon has been nominated for four prestigious awards. The 2012 race, which was enjoyed by 12,000 runners, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the Third Sector Excellence Awards for the Best Fundraising Event.
The race, which takes place on Sunday 6 October, is also one of the nominees for the Best Outdoor Event in this year's Event Awards, and its mobile tracker app, which was developed by race partners, Limelight Sports, has been shortlisted in the Event Technology Awards two categories: Best Mobile App and Best Use of RFID and Wireless Technology.
Sara Lom, founding Chief Executive at the Royal Parks Foundation, said: "We are proud of what we've achieved in just six years to make this one of the biggest and best fundraising races in the UK. To be nominated for these awards is fantastic and gives our brilliant team the recognition they deserve. We look forward to delivering another great event this year that is enjoyable for runners, supporters and charities coming from all around Britain."
This year's event is expected to be the biggest yet with 16,000 runners from over 300 charities taking part. Its Food & Fitness Festival in the race village will be attended by up to 50,000 visitors. Since it began in 2008, the race has raised more than £15 million for 455 charities.
