The energy, enthusiasm and good humour of 30 Run Leaders lifted an overcast day at the launch of England Athletics’ RunTogether brand in Kent earlier this month. runABC contributor and coach, Alan Newman, led a practical and theory session and Run Kent Activator, Lucy Tomlinson, received the England Athletics ‘Project of the Year Award’ - the fourth award gained by Run Kent since 2012.
‘RunTogether’ is the new name for Run England but as delegates at the fourth of 24 nationwide road shows discovered it is far more than just badge engineering. There is a brand new website designed to be far more user friendly and a mobile app to support Run Leaders, together with a useful online Run Leader Toolkit.
The Kent launch started with the presentation of the England Athletics award to Lucy Tomlinson, who then dedicated the award to all the Run Leaders in Kent who have helped over 1,000 new runners take up running in 2016, bringing the county total to over 7,000 new runners since 2012.
This was followed by a short run, taking in the Sebastian Coe fitness trail in the attractive grounds of the Mercure Great Danes Hotel in Hollingbourne. Coach Newman then took outdoor warm-up and indoor core stability sessions after a lively discussion based on his ten golden rules for running.
The public launch campaign will start in January 2017, once all Run Leaders are updated and the RunTogether website and re-branded social media has been shared with all registered runners. The new arrangements will make it far easier to find a running group and for Run Leaders to communicate information.
There will also be the opportunity to create bespoke posters, flyers, banners, business cards and even RunTogether branded running gear for a more cohesive appearance.
