Are you based in the Salisbury area? Have you decided that 2016 is going to be a year of change? Then those friendly people at parkrun may have what you are looking for with the launch of a new Walk2Run initiative next Saturday (9 January).
Salisbury parkrun is the free timed 5k which takes place at Churchill Gardens (opposite Wiltshire College on Southampton Road) every Saturday morning at 9.00am. The event was launched in June 2015 and now regularly attracts a field of 150/200 each week plus a healthy tranche of volunteers who stage the run.
Participants clock times ranging from 20 to 50 minutes. There are no time constraints; you can choose to walk/run or walk the entire course. No one is under pressure to complete the entire 5k either as the course is three laps so you can do one or two laps if you prefer.
Now with the new Walk2Run scheme, parkrun is hoping to attract people who have done very little or no previous regular exercise. Event director Elizabeth Roberts told runABC South: “We have a bit of a mission at Salisbury parkrun in wanting to encourage locals to get active and improve their health and fitness levels. We welcome all abilities and we are very much looking forward to getting our Walk2Run Initiative under way.”
