One of the best value half marathons in southern England is hosted by Portsmouth Joggers Club next month on Sunday, September 4. With a fee of just £9.00 for affiliated runners and £11.00 for the unattached, the Stansted Park Slog is one of the cheapest half marathons on the running calendar.
Entrants can expect plenty of pain for their pounds too as this is also amongst the toughest 13.1mile races in the region as well. The course is virtually all off-road and is hilly, making PBs a virtually impossibility. But this is an event where is it more about having a good time, than running a good time.
As far as preparation for an autumn marathon goes, the event is a good option and will deliver a workout worth more than the average half marathon. The event was last organised in 2009 and was won by Mike Halman of Hercules Wimbledon AC in 01:19:45. Finishing times under 1 hour 30 were good enough for a top ten finish, reflecting the tough nature of the course. For more information visit the Portsmouth Joggers website.
