The inaugural Surrey Half Marathon is now less than a month away, but runners have just a fortnight to go if they want to secure their place at the first ever running. Entry closes on 24 February for the event on Sunday 9 March. Organisers anticipate a 5,000 strong running field will hear out at 10:00am from Guildford Spectrum Leisure Centre.
The route follows the closed roads through Burpham, Jacobs Well, along New Inn Lane, past Woking FC, into and around Woking town centre and back to Guildford. Runners will also benefit from five Timex Pace runners who’ll be running at five specific paces.
The route will be lined with six live bands including samba, jazz choir and live rock bands. And local professional cycle team WyndyMilla is leading out the runners.
“Local residents have really got behind the event and we hope to create a fantastic atmosphere,” said Toby Jenkins Race Director, “and it’s great to see Guildford and Woking Borough Councils working together in allowing the event to take place.”
A Kids 800m race also starts shortly after the main event, in the Spectrum’s athletics track. Kids from 6-12 years are welcome to sign-up and race in the two waves from 10:20am.
Spectators are welcome to join in by cheering the runners along the route or at one of the spectator hotspots. Details can be found on the Surrey Half Marathon website.
