Woking Leisure Centre is the Race HQ for the 2XU Surrey Half Marathon on Sunday, 12 March with a brand new 5k run added to the programme for 2017. The race route is flat and fast through Surrey’s tranquil scenery and boasts a course record of 62 minutes, with 3,355 finishers last year in a well supported 3hrs35mins.
In addition to the main half marathon event and Kid’s Race, which saw over 500 children take part in 2016, the new 5k run is expected to attract a large field. The 5k is perfect for those who want to enjoy the atmosphere of a mass participation race but who are not ready to complete 13.1 miles.
The 5k will start under the main half marathon gantry just before the main event and runners follow the lead BMW i3 all-electric car, supplied by Vines BMW, out on their own route, featuring some of the best parts of the half marathon course.
2XU Surrey Half Marathon runners will enjoy quality road surfaces and stunning scenery as they pass through Sutton Green, Jacobs Well and Worplesdon, with full road closures, water stations and live music en-route. Runners will receive access to the event village and exclusive discounts, free bag storage, finish line food and water, free mobile app, professional chip timing and a stunning medal.
The Surrey Half sees the return of Macmillan Cancer Support as headline charity partner for 2017, alongside Harrison’s Fund as the local charity partner. Up to 500 corporate entries are on offer for local workforces, encouraging healthy competition between departments and business alike.
