Team Announced For Anglo Celtic Plate

2015 England TeamThere was confirmation late last week of the seven ultra runners who will represent England as part of the annual Anglo Celtic Plate event. The race will see the top long distance athletes from across the UK compete over 100k (around 62.2 miles) in Perth, Scotland on Sunday 27 March.

The race, celebrating its 22nd staging, is the only one held annually in Great Britain over the distance of 100k. This year’s event is based beside Perth’s North Inches Park and will see runners tackle a beautiful loop on the banks of the River Tay.

The male team will consist of Bournemouth AC’s Anthony Clark (2:30 marathon runner), Crawley AC’s Paul Navesey (second at the 2015 Hoka Highland Fling 53), Nathan Montague of Swindon AC (fifth at the same event and first at last year’s Compton Downland Challenge 40), plus Chris Singleton (who boasts a 5k PB of 16:28).

Competing in the women’s competition will be Serpentine RC’s Gemma Carter (fifth at last year’s Salisbury 50K), Katie Samuelson (second place female at the 2015 Peddars Way Ultra 47) and Spa Strider’s Melissa Venables (second in her category at the 2015 100k de la Somme in France).

While the competitors taking part are clearly of a high pedigree, the event is organised with the intention of supporting and developing budding ultra runners. Team leader Walter Hill comments: "This is a great event for the ultra community and offers a fantastic opportunity to compete over this classic distance."
